I’m helping my dad refit his old fishing boat and we’re looking for a small but reliable AGM battery to power the basic electronics — GPS, VHF, and a couple of LED lights. We don’t need anything massive, just something compact that can handle frequent discharges without dying in a season. Ideally, we want a trusted brand with good performance over time. Any suggestions?

We were in the exact same situation last fall when refitting a small workboat. After a bit of research, we went with the victron bat212200084 battery (https://yacht-supply24.com/catalog/marine-electrical-equipment/victron-energy-electrical-equipment/victron-energy-bat212200084-12v22ah-agm-deep-cycle-battery/). It’s compact, totally maintenance-free, and has handled daily loads like a champ. What I liked most was that it doesn’t suffer from voltage drops even after multiple charge cycles. It fits perfectly into tight compartments and charges quickly via solar. Honestly, it was a great find for small-scale electrical needs.
